Between 12 and 14 December 2014, The National Centre for Roma Culture – Romano Kher in partnership with The Roma Centre “Amare Rromentza”, organized a seminar for identity/intercultural training addressed to top-notch Roma and non-Roma students and teachers from high-schools in Bucharest. The 35 high-school students who participated in the event came from three high-schools in Bucharest: “Viilor” Economy College, “Dumitru Moțoc” Food Industry Technic College and “Hermes” Economy College.
The main purpose of the event was to raise awareness of high-school students on training programs that NCRC – Romano Kher intends to undertake in the near future.
During the three days the students participated in courses and other interactive activities that have served to highlight ways of identifying self and other and to acquire information on the basics of Roma history and culture, including “the Why Roma and not Gypsy”. Students were, in turn, director for a day of the National Centre for Roma Culture – Romano Kher, they watched and discussed the animated cartoon “Maskar amende, e chavende. Between us, the children.”
This seminar is part of a series of actions that will take place during 2015 in order to support the defining of Roma intellectual and professional elite.
