LAUNCH OF EDUCATIONAL MOVIE ABOUT ROMA STUDENTS IN ROMANIAN EDUCATION AND RAISING OF SELF-ESTEEM
“IOANA. A PRAY, A WISH, A DREAM COME TRUE”
PRESS RELEASE
March 18th, 2016
The National Centre for Roma Culture – Romani Kher organized on March 18th, 2016 a conference where the education movie “Ioana. A Pray, a Wish, Dream Come True” has been launched followed by debates on the movie’s subject.
The conference was held at School no.1 “Sfintii Voievozi”, in Bucharest. School students, teachers, representatives of Roma and non-Roma organizations, of central public administration and of political, cultural, educational systems and mass-media have attended the event.
The movie – a cultural product of our institution – is about the Roma students’ condition within the educational system and their self-esteem relating to: self-knowledge, self-confidence, membership to an ethnic/religious group, competence, self-representation (in direct ratio to social representation of the group to which they belong to), and the idea of multicultural education, too.
The movie makes a motion to promote – in the name of tolerance and anti-discrimination – the idea that all students have to be equal in education, to respect their history and traditions that build them as individuals. Moreover, the movie intends to highlight that most of the Roma students live moments of discrimination which generate inner dysfunctions.
The aim of our institution is to promote Roma culture from a new perspective. We wish the Romanian society to manifest receptivity for modern cultural values of Roma, so that the inter-cultural dialogue would allow achievements and values to increase our cultural heritage.
